License types
PC Locked and USB Dongle Licenses
The PC Locked License is “locked” to the PC hardware components. The software generates a “HardwareID”, and based on this HardwareID, a “License Code” is generated and emailed to you. The software can run only on that PC as long as the hardware components do not change. If a hardware component changes, the software generates a different HardwareID, and we can determine which component changed. If only one component has changed, we can generate a new PC Locked License. If the PC hardware is changed completely, or a new PC is used, a PC Locked License cannot be re-generated.
If the software will be used on a changing PC hardware configuration, or on more than one PC, a USB Dongle License needs to be ordered instead. The USB Dongle License is stored and delivered on a secure USB dongle and is independent of the PC hardware — the software can be used on any PC as long as the dongle is inserted. USB dongles are delivered by post; shipping costs are included in the price.
Commercial and Home-User Licenses
A Commercial License is for customers using the software for commercial applications who receive financial compensation from using it. Re-sellers and system integrators who use the software in their solutions are considered commercial parties. Commercial licenses cannot be ordered as a PC Locked License — for commercial use, only a USB Dongle License can be ordered.
A Home-User License (non-commercial) is for individual home use only, and can only be purchased if no financial compensation is received whatsoever from using the software. A Home-User License can be ordered as either a PC Locked License or a USB Dongle License.
License validity
Both PC Locked and USB Dongle licenses are perpetual — a perpetual license allows you to use the licensed software indefinitely. For the first 2 years, the perpetual license also entitles you to download all software updates and receive technical support.
After the 2-year period ends, you can choose to remain on the last version released before the Free-Upgrade and Support period expired, or purchase a new 2-year Free-Upgrade and Support extension for 40% of the license price. There is no penalty for letting Updates & Support lapse for a while before purchasing a new extension — the new 2-year period is extended starting from the last date of the previous 2-year period, not from the date you purchase the extension.
Example: An initial license is purchased on 01.03.2021. The 2-year Free-Upgrade and Support period ends on 01.03.2023. Before that date, all software versions released before 01.03.2023 can be downloaded and installed. After 01.03.2023, the software can still be used, or a new 2-year extension can be purchased. That extension runs from 01.03.2023 to 01.03.2025 — even if the extension is purchased some time after 01.03.2023.
Important: for all licenses purchased before 01.01.2018, the 2-year Free-Upgrade and Support period ended on 01.01.2020. A new 2-year extension can be purchased from there.
Sales are final
SimPit Warp licenses are issued to your hardware or USB key at delivery. As set out in our Returns & Warranty policy, software license purchases — including license extensions and upgrades — are final and non-refundable once issued.
